Chichibu The Peated 2026

A highly anticipated return to Chichibu's smoky side, The Peated 2026 is the distillery's first standalone heavily peated single malt release since 2022. Produced during Chichibu's annual period of peated spirit production, the whisky uses malted barley peated to approximately 50 parts per million (PPM), delivering a distinctive smoky character while retaining the vibrant fruitiness for which the Japanese distillery is renowned.

The whisky is drawn from a carefully assembled selection of around 40 casks, predominantly ex-bourbon barrels, complemented by Oloroso sherry casks and re-coopered hogsheads. The result is an expressive balance of peat smoke, sweet malt, warming spice and orchard fruit.

The nose reveals gentle smoke alongside toasted baking spices, burnt caramel and roasted almonds. On the palate, honey, banana and cooked apple are joined by a warming ginger spice, before the finish develops a lingering grassy, resinous smokiness.

A compelling release for fans of peated whisky, offering a different perspective on Japanese single malt through Chichibu's distinctive craft-led approach.
