Ron Colón Salvadoreño Red Banana Oleo Rum came about after the folks at Ron Colón Salvadoreño saw red banana trees acting as shade crops on a coffee farm in El Salvador, and after drinking a cocktail that used banana skin 'oleo saccharum' - which is a neat technique where fruit rinds are coated in sugar to extract flavourful oils and create a turbo-charged flavoured syrup. Here, red banana peels are used along with sugarcane syrup to flavour the rum, and this should make some delicious banana cocktails.
Tasting Notes:
Rum blend and banana collide beautifully in this intersection of tastes with a tropical bouquet up front and roasted cacao on your palate followed by fresh and caramelised banana and a final touch of heat and pot still funk
