Batch three of Glenallachie's Virgin Oak series demonstrates the subtle effects of different oak species on whisky maturation. This lovely speysider was matured in American oak bourbon casks before a secondary maturation in Hungarian virgin oak. The oak of the finishing casks were sourced from the Zemplen forest in northeast Hungary, where the cold temperature, volcanic soil and high altitude make for slow-growing oaks with a tight grain pattern, ideal for whisky maturation. A unique, well-balanced and aromatic dram.
